The International Building Code (IBC) provides code guidance for fabric structures in Chapter 31 - Special Construction. Issues regarding fabric structures are addressed separately from conventional buildings. Noncombustible membrane structures, which include the buildings supplied by MBD Buildings, are considered Type IIB construction, which allows for a lower level of fire-resistance than combustible Type I construction.

The following are important factors when determining if the fabric building you purchase is building code compliant:

Snow Loads: In order to achieve code compliance fabric buildings must be designed to withstand the local snow load. Any language or design anticipating snow sliding off the roof is not code compliant as the snow doesn’t always slide off the roof.

Engineering Drawing Stamping: Does the engineer have record of proper credentials? In state?

Occupancy: Is the occupancy risk category correct?

Code reference: Does the building code reference match the local codes?

Foundations: Is the building's foundation properly engineered? Are foundation force calculations available?

Wind loads: Does designed wind load match local code for wind?

Building Calculations: Are they available?

Designed to Meet or Exceed Code

MBD buildings are designed to meet and/or exceed IBC building code requirements

Minimum roof live load is 12 psf per ASCE 7-05 plus customer specified collateral load

Ground snow load capability per code specification up to 100 psf or greater

Wind load capacity up to 140 mph 3 second gust or greater

Structural framework is structurally independent of the fabric and does not rely on the cover to brace framing members

Experienced, qualified and responsible design and engineering capability
