Repairing Fabric Covered Buildings
As with all buildings at some point in
their lifetime they will need to be repaired in one way or
another, cosmetically or structurally. Fabric covered
buildings are often more easily and less costly to repair
than other buildings.
One of
the most frequently asked questions is, “What if I get a
hole in the fabric, can it be fixed?” The answer is yes! A
small hole can easily be fixed by the owner using an
adhesive patch material made for fabric buildings that can be purchased. It is a good
idea to purchase some of this with your fabric covered
building so a quick repair can be made to protect what’s
inside. The process is simple, get the area around the hole
clean, cut a piece of patch material big enough to cover and
apply it over the hole.
If
there a large hole in your buildings cover, or a tear created by a
forklift, vehicle, or other equipment, then it’s time to
call us so we can repair that for you. Those types of
damages are usually considered structural and we will need
to bring our heat welder in and weld a patch over the top.
We
have actually repaired and have even replaced the covers on
some fabric covered buildings while they were being used for manufacturing
and storage without displacing or disrupting the work going
on inside.
When
it comes to fixing things like trusses, purlins, winches,
belts etc., we keep records on what parts are included in
each of our buildings and can usually replace them quite
easily. The reason for this is the way that fabric covered
buildings are constructed. Due to their “open construction”
the parts are easy to reach and replace and because of this
the small amount of labor needed keeps the repair costs
lower.
What
we would like to mention here is we are often asked to
repair fabric buildings produced by other companies. We are usually
able to fix the fabric but sometimes not the parts. We can
often come up with a suitable replacement part but not when
it comes to the main trusses, etc. we may be able to repair
but not replace them.
