Ecology Blocks
Foundation for Fabric
Buildings
Ecology blocks are one of many foundation options that are used for fabric covered buildings. These pre-cast
concrete blocks should only be used for fabric buildings
less than 60' wide. They will sufficiently support
structures of this size.
The concrete blocks can either be buried underground, or
stacked above grade on a gravel bed. This option can be very
cost effective depending on the size of the building and the
height that is required.
Depending upon the "forces" on "loading" of the
building trusses on the foundation blocks, sometimes it will
be necessary to strap the bocks together. Strapping
them together with steel straps creates a solid foundation
wall and keeps the structure from lifting or
rolling the blocks over.
Advantages:
1. Ecology blocks (concrete blocks) are
very cost effective for fabric
buildings 60’ wide and smaller.
2.
When ecology blocks are used for the buildings foundation, the whole
building system is portable.
3.
Add space inside a fabric building by stacking the concrete
block foundation up to 7.5'.
4.
The ecology blocks provide protection for the building when
equipment is used inside.
5.
It is relatively easy to find and purchase concrete blocks
of appropriate quality.
6.
Installation of ecology blocks is fast.
