Fabric buildings have the ability to be
installed on a number of different types of
foundations. This is Milestones Fabric
Covered Buildings Service Module 4. You will find
pictures of most all the available fabric
building foundations with a short
description in this service module. This information may help you to
determine what type of foundation will be the
best for your tension fabric structure.
Several anchoring and foundation options exist for fabric
covered buildings, and
a few things must be considered to determine the best option for your
application. Two primary factors should direct your decision on foundation
options:
-
Do you require a temporary or a permanent foundation.
-
What is the budget for your project.
Temporary Foundation Options
Are
typically quicker and easier to install, and after disassembly and removal, will
leave no lasting trace on the land - good for situations where long-term impact
on the environment is a concern. The temporary foundation options are generally
less expensive and require less skilled labor. Temporary fabric building
foundations will be less expensive to install but are limited in the size of
buildings they will support, and will not match the longevity of permanent
foundations.
Temporary foundations usually do not require heavy machinery
or a large workforce to install. A couple of people with common tools can
prepare a temporary fabric building foundation, most of which do not include a
sub floor, work well for agriculture buildings, riding arenas and work
areas. Many temporary building foundations will leave little or no environmental
footprint behind once the building is removed.

Permanent Foundation Options
Will
stand the test of time and provide you with the most stable and long-lasting
fabric buildings. Consider permanent foundations for sand and salt storage
buildings, waste treatment facilities, aircraft hangers, vehicle maintenance
buildings, and any other situation that requires a durable foundation.
Permanent foundations are often chosen because they feature a solid, durable
floor as part of the foundation, are well suited for industrial type
applications.
